This kimono features a very classical motif of Taisho period, the Arrow Feather, or Yabane, which literally means “arrow” and “feather”, a symbol of good luck.
It is became popular among female students during Taisho period. Arrow feather motif evoked the straight, unchanging and not returnable character of the arrow. Once shot thus a form of determination makes it a good wish for happy blessing marriage. In Buddhism, the arrow and bow represent the fight against evil. In the Shinto temples, at New Year’s Eve, “hamaya” decorative demon-killing arrows, are sold as good luck charms.
