Murasaki refers to the heroine of The Tale of Genji, it is also the Japanese word for the color purple.
The jacquard pattern is called 'tatewaku', which is a design traditionally worn by nobility.
Its shape of vertical wave lines represents mists forming over water, hence widely interpreting as 'rising above'.
Chrysanthemum, another better known motif for nobility, is placed in between the waves, adding sophistication of the whole picture, echoing with hand painting chrysanthemum with embroideries on hem.
Very soft hand feel with excellent drape, a collector's piece, rare to come across and not to be missed.
