This kimono features silk jacquard fabric with maple pattern size grading from shoulder to hem and a very subtle opal ombre on its coral base.
Maple is a very important art and cultural motif, playing an essential part in traditional Chinese and Japanese poems, paintings and fictions such as the Tale of Genji chapter Beneath the Autumn Leaves. Nowadays maple slight seeing is still a popular leisure time entertainment in Autumn.
Momiji-gari refers to an excursion on which people would gather maple twigs and take them home, associating the scarlet maple leaves with powers of recovery.
