Maru ni Oni-Zuta kamon can be found on front shoulder and central back.
Oni-Zuta is one variation of Tsuta mon, which is a kind of Japanese Ivy with jagged edges. Tsuta mon is one of the ten most used family emblem in Japan.
It remained however a rather rare emblem until the Edo period (1603-1868), only used by a few clans, notably as a Kaemon (sub-emblem) by some members of the Matsudaira/Tokugawa family.
Interestingly, the used of Tsuta emblems became widespread from the 17th century, as they were adopted by many famous geishas and courtesans that worked in the famous Yoshiwara district.
Symbolically, like the Japanese ivy, courtesans and geishas entwined their customers and blossomed from their wealth.
The plant also represent enteral and inseparable love.
